Kai Qing
Kai Qing is a Primary 5 girl and her command of English is good. Before coming on board to our program, she already had a habit of reading weekly. She loves to read mystery books like Mr. Midnight and Mr. Mystery. However, she is very shy and does not voice out her thoughts on the book. When reading, she also does not dare to project her voice and she had some minor reading problems. After 12 reading sessions, she has taken interest in informative books about the Earth. She is also more confident now and automatically shares her thoughts on the books that she reads with me. She is also able to project her voice and reads more fluently with expressions. Currently she is on a set of flashcards containing words for Primary 6 students. She is learning words like "controversy" and "cordial" now.
Dana
Dana is a Primary 2 girl and her command of English is very good. She loved reading from day 1 and she is a spontaneous and bubbly child. Like Kai Qing, she also loves to read mystery books like Mr. Midnight and Mr. Mystery. However, one problem with her is that she reads too much, to the point that she is able to recite the whole story line of some books and more often than not, these books are too simple for her. She was also monotonous in her reading and did not like to project her voice. After 12 reading sessions, she has taken interest in a wider genre of books. She has also learnt how to enjoy reading out loud and doing so with fluency and with expressions. She is currently on a set of flashcards containing vocabulary words for Primary 4 students, learning words like "coax" and "disclose".
